This week, Chez Panisse, the revolutionary restaurant in Berkeley, celebrates it's 40th anniversary. And Alice Waters' new book, "40 Years of Chez Panisse: The Power of Gathering," comes out. Along with Alice, some 90 collaborators: chefs, farmers, foragers, gardeners, teachers, filmmakers, artists and others contributed passages to this book.
A few months back, Alice read us a chapter aloud. And then another and another. Suddenly it started becoming "radio." We asked Alice if she would read the whole book aloud, as a "book on tape." She said yes, and did. And then she asked us to record all 90 of the contributors.
In honor of the 40th anniversary of a kitchen that is far from hidden, we present an excerpt of this work-in-progress. We call it "The Power of Gathering (Audio)."
