Part One: A PERSONAL CALLING part 1    
AS THE NUMBER OF AUTISTIC AND OTHER DEVELOPMENTALLY CHALLENGED CHILDREN CONTINUES TO RISE WORLDWIDE, THE ISSUE OF HOW BEST TO EDUCATE AND INTEGRATE THESE CHILDREN HAS BECOME TO SUBJECT OF FIERCE DEBATE… GLOBALLY, MANY SCHOOLS SEPARATE THE DEVELOPMENTALLY DELAYED, THE MENTALLY AND PHYSICALLY CHALLENGED, AND THE STUDENTS WITH SPECIAL NEEDS FROM THE REST OF THE STUDENTS,  BUT MARYKNOLL FATHER BRENDAN O’CONNELL TREATS AND TEACHES ALL CHILDREN THE SAME AT HIS INCLUSIVE BETHLEHEM FOUNDATION PRESCHOOL IN SOUTHERN TAIWAN

OVER THE PAST FEW DECADES, THE STIGMA ATTACHED TO MENTAL RETARDATION HAS LESSENED CONSIDERABLY IN TAIWAN, THANKS IN PART TO FATHER BRENDAN'S EFFORTS… THE GOVERNMENT HAS BEGUN TO PROVIDE SERVICES, AND THE LEGISLATURE PASSED A LAW RECOGNIZING THE RIGHT OF EVERY SCHOOL-AGE CHILD, WITH OR WITHOUT DISABILITIES, TO PUBLIC EDUCATION… BUT FATHER BRENDAN STILL HAS GREATER HOPES, HE WANTS THEM FULLY INTEGRATED INTO TAIWANESE SOCIETY.  JOIN AS WE VISIT THE COUNTRY OF TAIWAN AND BRING TO YOU THE STORY OF MARYKNOLL FATHER BRENDAN O’CONNELL, WHOSE DEDICATION TO THE RIGHT OF DISABLED CHILDREN TO LIVE TO THEIR FULLEST POTENTIAL BEGAN IN HIS OWN FAMILY, BUT HAS POSITIVELY AFFECTED CHILDREN AROUND THE WORLD
