He shares his story of how he was pressured to approve a design which violated the structural code. He made the necessary corrections to the design but the manufacturing manager refused to interrupt his schedule to implement the corrections, which were merely a few adjustments. No cost increase of the product was involved. Then, he was ordered to release a new design before it was fully checked. His boss wanted to capture the market and make corrections later. This was a dangerous gamble risking loss of life which could be caused by structural failure. Unable to live with these ethical challenges he resigned. In subsequent years he learned that his experiences are more the norm than the exception, leading to grave concerns about the safety of our nuclear power plants. These and other such experiences led him to conclude that the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) = Nobody Really Cares! He shares with us the very real and frightening risks and costs of nuclear power. While the industry says that nuclear power is affordable, Mr. Goodman educates us on the true costs when you look at the entire picture, which includes massive water usage, as well as risks to the health of future generations. He advocates for real alternative energy sources that make the risks of nuclear power unnecessary and unwise.
