Two stand alone half hours in the Peace Talks Radio Series, each featuring an expert, Victor LaCerva (Pictured) and Ruth Beaglehole, on how parents can communicate nonviolently with their children and model peacemaking behavior. Read the full description.

Victor_small These are two half hours in the Peace Talks Radio Series, offered together here so that stations will have the option of pairing these two shows on peaceful parenting to make for a compelling hour. The 29 minute programs stand alone and can also be used separately. If your station needs a newscast friendly 54 minute edit, please contact producer Paul Ingles at paul@paulingles.com or 505-255-1219. Program 1 features Victor LaCerva, M.D., in conversation with host Suzanne Kryder about how adults can help children learn emotional fluency, the practice of naming their feelings with words instead of acting them out with inappropriate behavior. Dr. LaCerva also comments on spanking and bullying. Parent Sarah Malone and her teenage son Kevin joined the discussion with questions and comments. In Program 2, host Carol Boss welcomes Ruth Beaglehole, Founder and Executive Director of the Center for Nonviolent Education and Parenting, based in Los Angeles. Ms. Beaglehole advocates a “no tolerance” policy regarding any form of violence to children and makes her case that children deserve human rights protection. "Child abuse laws say that we can spank our children as long as we don't leave a bruise,” she tells Boss. “Well, for those of us who worked in the early days of the domestic violence prevention movement, that's not what we said about women—that hitting was okay if it didn't leave a bruise. We wanted the violence to stop.” Ruth gives practical tips for developing a cooperative relationship with children that addresses situations of difficult behavior. She also takes some challenging questions from 12-year old Evan Moulson, whom we invited into the studio to join us. Peace Talks Radio is a series of half-hour programs and occasional one-hour specials that explore peacemaking and nonviolent solutions to conflict - in our families, our neighborhoods, our nation, and our world.
