The Untold Story of the Five Stairsteps with Dennis Burke
Dennis Burke was born into a musical family known in show business as the Five Stairsteps (Aloha Burke, Clarence Burke, Jr., James Burke, Dennis Burke & Keni Burke). He was the second to the youngest member of the group and mentions during the interview that he began performing on stage at the age of 5. This present day Atlanta business man reminisces on his days as a singer, dancer and musician.
This program: (STAIRSTEPS Stories! VOL. 2 (Dennis Burke): The Untold Story of the Five Stairsteps is one hour in length and is one third of a three part series. Any of the three programs can be played without the other two. This program is divided into three sets. The first set is the short one which leaves room for the news. Sets two and three are standalone leaving room for announcements.
Highlights of the interview
Segment One: During this segment Dennis Burke talks about his early days in show business as a child, going to public school in Chicago, the Stairsteps choreography, the song Don’t Change Your Love, when the group became a black rock Funk stage act from 1971 to 1972 and his brother Keni Burke was the groups built in bass player.
Segment Two: During this segment Dennis Burke reminises about Curtis Mayfield who was close to the Burke family. The group’s signature song Ooh Child was discussed, the publicity photo of the 1970 Stairsteps album cover was discussed, and the 1976 album 2nd Resurrection was also discussed. He played the guitar on all of the songs on the two Invisible Mans Band albums and discussed the song 9 Times Out of 10 and his Atlanta haircare business.
