Rupa Lucian, Child of Romania (Romania/UK locations) 2011
A true story, Rupa Lucian, Child of Romania charts the historic final months leading to the fall of the Ceausescu regime. The story, narrated in the first person, focuses on the extraordinary personal struggle of Rupa Lucian, one of the state’s most faithful soldiers who, after leading executions of anti-state demonstrators finally attempts a purgative action by leading the execution of Ceausescu himself; thus releasing the country from its long reign of terror. The story runs parallel with the story of Anna and Paul, a childless English couple who, after a holiday in Romania in 1988, turn their infertile frustrations into ideologically motivated actions, leading to an encounter with the ruthless Securitate executioner, Rupa Lucian.
