Hello, I’m Candice Agree. Welcome to The Spanish Hour, a weekly program of classical music from Spain and the Spanish-speaking world. On this week’s edition, a memorial tribute to Alicia de Larrocha.
The great Spanish pianist Alicia de Larrocha died September 25th, 2009 at the age of 86. For many, her recordings of Granados, Albéniz, and Falla defined the classical piano music of Spain. In October of 2010, Alicia de Larrocha was remembered by students, colleagues, and family, in a memorial concert presented at the Manhattan School of Music, part of the year-long series Visiones: Music of Spain and Latin America. On this edition of The Spanish Hour, we’ll hear selected performances from the memorial, as well as recordings by Alicia de Larrocha, and testimonials from those who knew her well.
