Good news this week in Ohio, where there was a major move against attempts to strip public employees of their union rights . . . just as there was earlier in Wisconsin, where the movement against public employees got its start a few months ago.
The Ohio demonstration in behalf of union rights on Tuesday was spectacular. And I don't use that word lightly. It involved what was quite accurately called "a People's Parade."
More than six thousand workers, plus fire engines, a drum corps and bagpipers marched down the main street of Ohio's capital of Columbus. But most important was a semi-truck that accompanied them. It was filled with more than a million petitions signed by Ohio citizens. They called for repeal of Republican Governor John Kasich's bill –-S.B. 5 – that eliminates the collective bargaining rights of more than 350,000 of Ohio's public employees.
