When Nason Smith was homeless he used to catch trout in a city park. He would smoke dope, write letters and cook fish at a picnic table. One evening he offered some of his fish to a badly burned woman who collected cans in the park. He started telling her his life story, exaggerating and rambling, thinking she was a deaf mute.
