Hello, I’m Candice Agree. Welcome to The Spanish Hour, a weekly program of classical music from Spain and the Spanish-speaking world. On this week’s show, composers representing three generations of Spanish music: from the Generation of 1898 to the present day.

We’ll start off with an orchestral work by the youngest in the group: José Luis Greco. Born in New York City in 1953, the son of famed flamenco dancers José Greco and Nila Amparo, Greco enjoyed success in a number of disciplines, acting and dancing among them, before choosing to dedicate himself to composition. Artists and arts organizations throughout the United States and Europe regularly commission his works. His oeuvre includes operas, scores for ballet and dance theater pieces, orchestral and chamber music, and children’s music theater. Greco has made Madrid his home since 1994, and is by all accounts a Spanish composer. W...
