May Day, or Beltane as it was known in the Celtic calendar, celebrates the beginning of summer. Many young couples joined their lives in hand-fasting ceremonies on this day, in celebration of their love and the land blossoming around them. Music, particularly the harp, was the soul of Ireland. Turlough O'Carolan, born in 1670, was the last great Irish harpist and composer. Today, in honor of Beltane and the harp, I offer you the music of O'Carolan, Sheebag Sheemore.
