Scottnottelevised_small In this hour of The Blues & Beyond, music from the late Gil Scott-Heron, a musical poet whose songs depicted the African-American experience of the 1970's and 80's with fresh eloquence, and whose style and presentation, born of jazz, blues, and R&B, was highly original and anticipated the coming of hip hop. We'll hear his hard-hitting commentary on the media, "The Revolution Will Not Be Televised" and his reinvention last year of a Robert Johnson song about battling the devil - - We'll also hear from two jazz artists that Gil Scott-Heron sang about in one of his best songs, Billie Holiday, and John Coltrane. And, we have new jazz, from the incomparable pianist Hiromi Uehara and her trio, an album called "Voice" and flute-player and composer Nicole Mitchell with an album called "Awakening."
