In this hour of The Blues & Beyond, we'll open the "Deluxe Edition" album for Shemekia Copeland from Alligator Records. This album is a collection of sixteen songs that the fiery young blues singer recorded for the label, starting a age nineteen in 1998. We'll also hear a song she recorded after leaving Alligator from her 2009 album "Never Going Back," and one from her father, the late Texas bluesman Johnny Copeland. Also, new music from pianist Benito Gonzalez with Azar Lawrence and Myron Walden on saxes, and one from Walden's new album as well - - it's called "Countryfied" and is a very bluesy album. We have a hard-hitting song from Roy Gaines and his orchestra from his new album "Tuxedo Blues," and some sinful music - - musical representations of the seven deadly sins from Joseph Daley and his Earth Tones Ensemble. The album is called "The Seven Deadly Sins." This group has a deep earthy tone, as their name suggests. Daley's partner in another band Hazmat Modine, Wade Schuman, painted fanciful representations of the seven deadly sins, which Daley and his ensemble then rendered musically. We'll have time for a couple of sins, avarice and gluttony!
