Gonzalez_small In this hour of The Blues & Beyond, we'll open up a brand new album from pianist Benito Gonzalez. Since arriving in Washington DC from Venezuela ten years ago, Gonzalez has become an electrifying performer in the DC area, now putting out his second album as a leader, called "Circles." Gonzalez teams up with saxophone players Ron Blake, Myron Walden, and Azar Lawrence, along with bassist Christian McBride and drummer Jeff "Tain" Watts on an exciting collection of original pieces along with one McCoy Tyner tune. Plus, We'll hear Gonzalez playing in a band led by Azar Lawrence, from Lawrence's album "Mystic Journey." These two definitely have synergy, whichever one is the band leader at the time.  Also on this show, a live recording of bassist Charles Fambrough leading a band on a bluesy tribute to his former boss, the great Art Blakey. Fambrough died at age sixty this past New Years Day.
