According to the National Fire Protection Association... 71% of Firefighters in the US are volunteers. With a long tradition, dating back to Benjamin Franklin and The Union Volunteer Fire Company of Philadelphia... they protect us on a daily basis.
Highly trained and more "professional" than ever, volunteer firefighters make a significant contribution of service to their communities... often in very dangerous circumstances. "Hydrant" is a first person narrative, creative non-fiction piece that honors the selfless service provided by these citizen volunteers... and It is a good representation of the realities of responding to a major fire.
