MIAMI UNIVERSITY, ALTHOUGH CUTTING BACK IN MANY AREAS, IS MOVING FORWARD WHEN IT COMES TO ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY.
RECENTLY, THE SUSTAINABILITY COMMITTEE OF MIAMI INTRODUCED ITS FIRST COMPREHENSIVE PLAN TO THE UNIVERSITY. THE PLAN IS MULTIFACETED, AND INCLUDES REDUCING THE UNIVERSITY’S CARBON FOOTPRINT AND IT’S RELIANCE ON COAL.
ALTHOUGH, AT THE OUTSET, MIAMI WILL BE PAYING MORE FOR RENEWABLE ENERGY THEN IT WILL BE FOR COAL POWER, SUSTAINABILITY COORDINATOR DR. DAVID PRITHERICH THINKS THIS IS A MOVE IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION.
