ERIC WHITNEY: According to Ph.D. historian and writer Thomas Frank, the current gap between rich and poor in America is the greatest its been since the 1920s. The rich are getting richer, he says, thanks to politicians firmly entrenched in the back pockets of corporate America. The great irony, Frank says, is that instead of rising up in the face of shrinking wages and benefits, the American working class is gladly handing more and more power to business interests.

THOMAS FRANK: And I think this is the great historical fact of our time, millions of average people who vote for politicians that actively make their situation worse. It’s like a French Revolution in reverse. In which the workers come pouring down the streets screaming, “More power to the aristocracy!”
