*** KATRINA RELIEF EFFORTS IN PUEBLO ***

ERIC WHITNEY: As Hurricane Rita bears down on the Gulf Coast, local efforts to help out evacuees from hurricane Katrina continue in Southern Colorado. On Tuesday, Pueblo held a Mardi Gras style party to benefit the forty or so families estimated to have relocated to that city, and neighboring La Junta and Cañon City. Anita Miller reports.

ANITA MILLER: Local bands do their thing as chefs and other volunteers rustle up plates heaping with Cajun-style food. It’s a mix of cultures similar to what the Pueblo community is experiencing with an onslaught of new residents in the form of Hurricane Katrina evacuees.

Suggested donations for the dinner plates are ten dollars, but many folks are offering up much more. Proceeds are going directly to Katrina victims relocating to Pueblo and the surrounding area. Steve Nawro...
