Reed_small In this hour of The Blues & Beyond, we'll hear from pianist Eric Reed as he recasts the music and style of Thelonius Monk on his new album "The Dancing Monk." Reed acknowledges his challenge - - namely that Monk's playing and his composing are so unified that it's hard to cover his material in an original way. "Combine the music and the man," writes Eric Reed,  "and what is born is a terrifying force to be reckoned with." Eric Reed rises to the test, as you will hear. Also a song from rising star Eliane Amherd from her debut album, a couple of tribute songs to the late Queen of the Blues Koko Taylor, as well one from Ms. Taylor herself, and far-ranging jazz from Ernest Dawkins and his New Horizons Ensemble, on their album "The Prairie Prophet."
