Piece Description

Inspired by these words from a Langston Hughes poem, Lorraine Hansberry created one of the great seminal works of American theatre - A Raisin in the Sun. Her groundbreaking work, which opened on Broadway in 1959, chronicles the Younger family on the south side of Chicago. This compelling portrait of competing dreams earned Hansberry the New York Drama Critics’ Circle Award for Best Play at the age of 29. She became the youngest playwright and the first African-American to win that honor.

Starring Judyann Elder, Corey Hawkins, Deidire Henry, and Rutina Wesley (Tara in HBO's True Blood). Directed by Lou Bellamy. An L.A. Theatre Works premiere broadcast.
