On October 7th, 1955, Philip Lamantia, Philip Whalen, Michael McClure, Allen Ginsberg, and Gary Snyder gave a poetry reading at the Six Gallery in San Francisco. This reading is largely credited with announcing the Beat Generation to the rest of world and sparked the counter culture movements in the late 50's and 60's. Using the author's own work, interviews, and lectures, this show looks at the significance of the Beat Generation in the context of the 50's as well as its significance now.
