Karina Linch’s son, Maxwell, had a normal-enough-looking bellybutton when he was born. But within weeks it started to stick out more and more until it was the size of a plum. Turned out, Maxwell had an umbilical hernia from straining due to gas and his pediatrician thought Karina’s breast milk could be the culprit. After cutting a bunch of things out of her diet, she came to the conclusion that his problems could probably be solved if she ate chicken. Easy enough, right? Thing is, Karina had been a vegetarian since she was ten.

Intro and Outro
INTRO:IF USING "NO INTRO" VERSION:
When Karina Linch became a mom, she started doing something that she used to find morally reprehensible. It's something she decided went against her code of ethics when she was 10 years old. It all started when her son Maxwell's bellybutton started growing...and growing and growing...until it was the size of a plum. Producer Hillary Frank, also a new mom, sat down with Karina and Maxwell -- you'll hear him in the background -- to talk about this bellybutton thing, which turned out to be an umbilical hernia. The doctor said it wasn't painful and it would go away over time...but that Maxwell was probably reacting to something in Karina's breast milk. Something that was giving him a lot of gas, and making him strain.
