A hooligan, freshly tagged in Berners Bay, Alaska
The annual hooligan run in Berners Bay, northwest of Juneau, is just about done. Researchers say several million of the small, oily fish have returned to spawn in rivers flowing into the bay. It's the biggest run since the U.S. Forest Service started monitoring the area five years ago -- three times as big as researchers have seen before. KTOO's John Ryan caught up with some fisheries technicians on the wild Gilkey River last week and sent in this audio postcard.
