MA-189 Equinox New Year

From: KVNF
Series: Mystics Almanac
Length: 05:11

Walking on a beach on Australia's east coast, I witnessed my birthday, and the birth of a new year. Read the full description.

Judith_medium_small I was born at full moon, 16 minutes before the spring equinox. Always I have loved this moment of balance between dark and light. Both the Shawnee and the Bahai mark the spring equinox as their New Year's Day. When I was 24 years old, I celebrated my birthday on Australia's east coast. Rising at dawn, I danced and ran along the edge of the surf. I photographed the spontaneous offerings of the sea: the double spiral of left by a wriggling sea worm; a mosaic of sand "beads" blossoming into stems and flowers. A mother kangaroo and her joey came to sit beside me and revel in the glory of dawn light skipping on the waves. This spring equinox reminded me that every sunrise is a new birth and a cause for celebration.
