Weinstein_small In this hour of The Blues & Beyond, some new Latin jazz from Mark Weinstein and Bobby Matos. Weinstein's new album "Jazz Brasil" continues his exploration of different Latin jazz styles, a journey that resulted in a famous, if not revenue-generating, album "Cuban Roots" in 1967 with Chick Corea on piano and Weinstein playing trombone. Nowadays Weinstein plays flute and supports his music by being a professor of philosophy. His nephew Danny Weinstein plays trombone and violin in percussionist Bobby Matos's group, and we'll hear some of their music too from a new album called "Beautiful As The Moon." Also strong new blues songs from Linsey Alexander and Donald Ray Johnson, a new release from jazz vocalist Jane Stuart, and kora music from Mamadou Diabaté from his new album "Courage." Plus - - a Zulu version of a famous song about farm animals from South Africa's Ladysmith Black Mamabazo (yup, it's "Old MacDonald" as you have never heard it before) from their newest release "Songs From A Zulu Farm," and a song from singer-songwriter Annie Dinerman from way back in 2006, our "oldie" for this show.
