College for the Undocumented

From: WAMU
Length: 00:03:33

Yimy knows lots of undocumented students who are determined to get to college. But why bother? Read the full description.

Yvlogo_small A report by the Pew Hispanic Center released in March estimates there are now more than ten million illegal immigrants living in the US. Every year, about 65- thousand of them graduate from high school. Youth Voices reporter Yimy Sanchez knows several of those students personally, and is fascinated by how enthusiastically some of them pursue a college education in America …even when there’s no guarantee it will change their legal status. All of the students’ names in this story have been changed.

Review of College for the Undocumented

Very inspirational. Sanchez is able to capture your mind and collide it with his, being able to show us not just how difficult it is for an undocumented student to be admitted into college, but the mental struggle with themselves to continue trying. Sanchez did a good job structuring the piece, placing good interview subjects in the right places. The sense hope at the end is a great positive to a piece full of despiration and futility.

Review of College for the Undocumented

This piece talks about the uphill battle for undocumented workers to obtain college educations. It gives a very good argument for allowing the undocumented high school graduates to get scholarships, but only briefly mentions the opposing viewpoint. I'm curious about what that could be. Other than that I liked the interview bits a lot. Good job.
