ATMI Reporter Ishmael Streever with a story about teen musher Seiji Takagi. Takagi's been mushing since elementary school and when the interview was conducted, he was preparing for his biggest race: 2011 Jr. iditarod. Streever explains how Takagi got his start, asks about his team of dogs, and his thoughts on the Jr. Iditarod. Takagi finshed in 12 place btw.

A fascinating peek into the world of mushingThis is another strong feature from the Alaska Teen Media Institute. Ishmael uses an interview with musher Seiji Takagi to thoroughly explore this fascinating and little-known sport. Ishmael steps back and lets Seiji's story speak for itself, with background noise provided by the dogs from time to time. The anecdote about Seiji's brother's finish in the junior Iditarod really adds color to the piece. We also get to hear from Seiji's mom briefly, which is a nice touch. |

Firsthand view of mushing
Ishmael Streever does a fascinating job interviewing musher Seiji Takagi and giving the listener a firsthand view of the world of mushing. Seiji explains his life as a musher in such a way that it’s easy to understand by the listener. The backgrounds sounds of the dogs add a certain atmosphere to the piece that relates to the directly to what is being explained. The story of Seiji’s brother was a nice addition to the piece.
