February 24, 2011: Karen Winters Schwartz is an optometrist/writer whose debut novel Where Are the Coco Puffs?: A Family's Journey Through Bipolar Disorder was published late last year. It follows a family through the tragedy of bipolar disorder, but it’s surprisingly not tragic. Rather, it’s quite funny, sad, and thought provoking.
Winters Schwartz is also an active board member of NAMI Syracuse (National Alliance on Mental Illness) and is an advocate for mental illness awareness.
