Barlow_small In this hour of The Blues & Beyond, we'll try to expand the "American Songbook." There are a lot of great songs that were written in the 1960s and later and aren't from musicals, but deserve the same regard as the older classics. We'll listen to some of them from a number of recent albums offering jazz interpretations of these songs, including a song from Emilie-Claire Barlow's 2010 album "The Beat Goes On," and tracks from recent albums by singers Alison Ruble and Livia Devereaux, pianist Leslie Pintchik, and a super troika of jazz players who call themselves Paris Troika. Also, a musical volley of Latin-flavored blues from the latest album by Wayne Wallace's Latin Jazz Quintet, and Albert King with Stevie Ray Vaughan, recordings from the Canadian TV show "In Session" from 1983. - - and we'll explore a captivating new album of original music, "Courage," by kora player Mamadou Diabaté.
