Dena DeRose isn't just one more in the current fad for female jazz vocalists. She's overcome steep personal problems. She had hand surgery for carpel tunnel, which turned out not to have been necessary. She trained herself as a vocalist and is back to playing piano as well.
She feels equally at home with a jazz standard, re-inventing a pop tune like "Imagine," or composing her own tunes. She feels passionately about the war in Iraq and social justice in America.
The Jazz Perspective features music from her 2005 CD "A Walk in the Park."
