Cyndi Lou Pappenfus is the owner of Squid and Whale, a tattoo shop in Portland, Maine. When Cyndi Lou got her first tattoo, it was a traumatic experience. She uses that negative experience to create a comforting and compassionate environment in her own shop. She also uses tattooing as a way to provide closure for people trying to commemorate life-changing events. Sometimes that means covering a scar. Other times it means creating an image so the client will not forget a person or event. But producer Sarah Delia found that behind every tattoo Cyndi Lou creates, there’s a story.
