Sally Herships: I just got engaged and am registering, you know, for presents. It feels kind of weird SUGGESTING gifts. But I felt a lot less presumptuous when I found out parents are now registering for kid’s birthdays. The registerers say they’re trying to be helpful. To let friends know what they need - just books, no toys please. And some invitees appreciate it. Especially if they’re not gifted at the art of gifting. But others can find it pushy. I wanted to find out if gift registries for kids are, well, tacky or if they just have a bad wrap. So I hit a party.

It's a birthday party. For one year old Asher Friedland. He lives in New Jersey and he has an older sister, Anya, who's five, so his mom Danielle has a lot of experience with kid's birthdays.
