Virtuoso Voices - Jaime Laredo (The Gould Standard)
From: Listener Directed Productions, Inc.
Series: Virtuoso Voices(tm)
Length: :24
Use this clip to introduce Jaime Laredo playing Bach – Violin Sonatas and Viola da Gamba Sonatas with Glenn Gould (Sony 52615). Jaime Laredo’s complete discography is available at arkivmusic.com.
SUGGESTED HOST INTRO
Twenty-eight* years after his death, pianist Glenn Gould remains one of the most highly revered performers the classical music world has ever known. Glenn Gould is perhaps best known for his two recordings of the Goldberg Variations by Bach. Another highpoint was the Bach recordings he made with violinist and violist Jaime (JAY-me) Laredo.
Jaime Laredo Clip:
“As a pianist he had the most extraordinary, without a doubt the most beautiful sound I’ve ever heard on a piano. I mean, I remember standing there next to him in the recording sessions; the sounds that would come out of that instrument, I thought to myself, you know this can’t be real, how beautiful it is. I don’t know how he did it. But this is what I remember about him. I mean, I can hear it right now.”
SUGGESTED HOST OUTRO
Let’s hear the Glenn Gould sound right now, matched with the equally beautiful sound of Jaime (JAY-me) Laredo playing Bach. (Insert music title.)
