Piece Description
Dory Previn's first interview with the media in years, this is Part Two of two editions of "Memories" in which she talks about the inspiration for her songs and that showcase her work. Abused as a child, Dory Previn started her songwriting career in Hollywood as soundtrack lyricist with composer Andre Previn. In the late 1960's her work became autobiographical, baring her soul and relating her struggle to heal in songs of exquisite imagery, haunting emotions, tremendous melodic variety, delightful humor and pointed irony. Her seven albums, critically acclaimed, attracted a dedicated following. Despite the uniqueness and quality of her work, a short performing career limited exposure. Today, information about her passes from one person to another like some mystery of ancient wisdom. Songs featured: Left Hand Lost (excerpt) Esther's First Communion (almost complete) Atlantis (excerpt) Lady with the Braid (almost complete) Lover Lover be my Cover (excerpt) Woman Soul (excerpt) Beware of Young Girls (excerpt) He Lives Alone (excerpt) Final Flight of the Hindenburg Part ! (almost complete) Starlet Starlet on the Screen, who will follow Norma Jean? (excerpt) Angels and Devils the following day (almost complete) Moon Rock (excerpt)

Review of Interview with Dory Previn Part 2Having been a fan of Dory Previn for many years, I am delighted to hear this interview. I am humbled by her openess and honesty and am very happy to hear she is living a rich and fulfilling life. A lot of todays artists, both the good and the not so good could lean a lot by listening to what Dory previn has to say. |

Review of Interview with Dory Previn Part 2This rare interview with Dory Previn affords a real insight into this songwriter's methods and material. Ms Previn is not like any other writer in the music business; her fusion of the humourous, political, personal and very frank is unique and she is just as eloquent and original in this interview as she is in her lyrics. First and foremost, she has proven herself to be an artist (like too few others) who is not driven by commercial considerations so much as the art and craft that is so evident in all her work. This interview will a great resource for new listeners discovering her work for the first time now that it's quite widely available on CD and on the internet. It's a terrific treat for her fans too of course. I hope it will be available on line for a long time to come as it's been a long time coming.
