Piece Description
Musician/Host Jason Wilber interviews singer-songwriter Chip Taylor about his fascinating life and his music. Among his over 500 published songs, Chip Taylor wrote the classic hit songs "Wild Thing" and "Angel of the Morning". His life has been a fascinating journey, marked by success in multiple genres of music, and in non-musical pursuits as well. In addition to being a successful hit songwriter and recording artist, Chip also found success as a professional gambler. He was once one of the foremost thoroughbred horse race handicappers on the East Coast. When Chip turned his sights on the gaming tables, he quickly gained notoriety with his black jack prowess; finishing third in the World Black Jack Championship in Las Vegas.
Success seems to run in the Taylor family, Chip Taylor's brothers are actor Jon Voight and geologist Barry Voight. He is the uncle of actress Angelina Jolie and actor James Haven.
Topics discussed include: Early tours booked at racetracks, his reluctance to tour even after his solo records gained some notoriety, his popularity in an unexpected part of the world, some of the R&B hits he wrote, what set him apart from the other New York writers of his day, what led him to quit the music business in the 1970's, how he came back after a 20 year hiatus, his record "The Living Room Tapes".
Musical selection include: Sunshine's a Waterfall, Red Red Rose, Country Girl City Man, Something About Losing It All, Black and Blue America.
New content includes "The Troggs" version of Wild Thing, plus the interesting story of how it came about according to Chip Taylor.

Great Conversation
The series is a great idea and the intelligent questions by Jason and the wonderful mixture of conversation & music makes for a great series. I have a radio programme myself and have interviewed Chip and have found him to be an extremely intelligent, modest, unassuming man. He is a wonderfful person, and Jason is an excellent questioneer! Excellent stuff.
