Piece Description
This story is from The Vinyl Cafe - a Canadian radio show. The fictional stories feature the misadventures of Dave, owner of the Vinyl Café – the world’s smallest record store where the motto is “We May Not Be Big, But We’re Small.” The Show also features Dave’s wife, Morley, their two children Sam and Stephanie and assorted friends and neighbours. The programme is hosted by Stuart McLean, Canada’s answer to Garrison Keillor. This story is an excerpt from the radio program. The full weekly radio program is also available on PRX. In this st Dave takes the dog Arthur’s medication by mistake and discovers that he suddenly feels significantly better...frisky even...and he seems to have a new interest in chasing squirrels up trees.

Review of Dog PillsThis is a simple little story, involving regular characters in the Vinyl Cafe series. The writer reads before a live and enthusiastic audience, and the enjoyment of all is palpable. It is quirky and amusing, and Stuart McLean's tone keeps it all at the right pitch. I have only recently discovered this series. It was sold as the Canadian version of A Prairie Home Companion, of which I am also a big fan. There are significant differences, but the common feature is the excellent storytelling, and the clear authorial voice which emerges both in the words and in the reading. I recognise that not many people in Scotland will have heard this show, but I'm delighted I found it and that prx.org gives me a way of listening to it. Top stuff! |

Review of Dog PillsThe title says it. It is a short story about a guy who mistakenly took his dog's pills and suddenly felt much more "frisky". Funny and wonderfully narrated. |

Review of Dog Pills
It was completely and totally awesome. In that, I mean, it inspired awe in a total and complete manner.
