Piece Description
In 2009 32,600 of the 37,000 male prisoners paroled and released from Texas prisons exited through Huntsville penitentiary and made their way onto Huntsville’s downtown streets and onto buses that would take them to wherever they call home. However in 2010 the state introduced a regional release plan in order to save money, meaning that prisoners are now released from various locations across the state and only male sex offenders and prisoners with mental health issues must still exit through Huntsville. Lisa Sandberg spent three days interviewing released prisoners and Huntsville residence before the regional release plan was fully implemented.
