Piece Description

*(Rerun with revised content / we are currently re-editing some previously broadcast programs so they do not include the original feature "Rock History 101"- we have replaced approximately ten minutes with new content.)

Musician/Host Jason Wilber interviews singer-songwriter Chip Taylor about his fascinating life and his music. Among his over 500 published songs, Chip Taylor wrote the classic hit songs "Wild Thing" and "Angel of the Morning". His life has been a fascinating journey, marked by success in multiple genres of music, and in non-musical pursuits as well. In addition to being a successful hit songwriter and recording artist, Chip also found success as a professional gambler. He was once one of the foremost thoroughbred horse race handicappers on the East Coast. When Chip turned his sights on the gaming tables, he quickly gained notoriety with his black jack prowess; finishing third in the World Black Jack Championship in Las Vegas.

Success seems to run in the Taylor family, Chip Taylor's brothers are actor Jon Voight and geologist Barry Voight. He is the uncle of actress Angelina Jolie and actor James Haven.

Topics discussed include: Chip's first band, how he came to write songs for so many country artists, his other great passion besides music,  the contrast between writing songs and betting on horses, songwriting in the days before audio recording equipement was so ubiquitous, and writing his song "Angel of the Morning".

Musical selection include: Sawmill River Road, Bastard Brothers, One Thing I Wanna Tell You, Without Horses, Yonkers Girls, Wild Thing.
