Piece Description
Musician/Host Jason Wilber interviews singer/songwriter Big Kenny Alphin. Big Kenny found fame as a songwriter in Nashville, and rose to stardom as half of the duo "Big and Rich". B&R were hugely successful commercially, producing four straight Top 40 Country hits; "Save a Horse (Ride a Cowboy)", "Comin' to Your City", "8th of November", and "Lost in the Moment ". Big Kenny also charted with solo hits, such as "Long After I'm Gone". This piece is "EVERGREEN", i.e. the show can be run anytime as the content is not date specific.
Topics discussed include: Big Kenny's early memories of music and his influences, what led him to leave his family farm and try his luck in Nashville, becoming a songwriter with his band "luvjOi", founding (through Big & Rich) the "MuzikMafia", an association of singer-songwriters which also included Shannon Lawson, Gretchen Wilson and Cowboy Troy, and how he got started performing.
Musical selections include: Free Like Me, Less Than Whole, Be Back Home, Under The Sun, Save a Horse (Ride a Cowboy) and Wake Up.

Big Kenny, Give Us More Ballad-like & Quiet Melodies
Great Interview! I grew up with the Alphins and often went swimming in their pool as a youngster. I felt the interview was honest and only wish he had more time to talk about what made him the way he is today. He seems to want to give back and you almost got to his heart, but not quite. You never asked him about his true faith and if he ever returned to the church or the God that gave him his start in music. Where does his true talent really come from...God or just himself? Adoring fans really want to know. Some people give back out of guilt, while others give back because they can, while others because God gives them the desire within to just keep on giving, no matter what. If you ever get another chance, you should ask Big Kenny and all guests why they do what they do.
