Anyone who grew up in the ‘70s and ‘80s remembers the theme songs from games like Super Mario or Tetris. Those video games used basic melodies and note progressions that are far simpler than today’s games, which often incorporate scores written by professional composers. But those rudimentary sounds have spawned a new genre of electronic music that’s being called “eight-bit music” or “chiptunes.” Producer Avishay Artsy spoke to a couple of New Hampshire musicians that call themselves The Attic Bits. They're bringing old video game sounds to life in a whole new way.
