Intro and Outro

INTRO:

Segment 1: BGM, Blood & Gold: "In Nevada City California, the Gold Rush trampled, the salmon, the Yuba River watershed, and the Tsi-Akim Maidu [Chai Awkum My-doo] people who depended on those ecosystems for survival. The toxic legacy lives on today uniting natives and non-natives in solving environmental problems and healing relations. Now, the Gold Rush is long over and the community is rallying to restore the health of the river and bring back the salmon. In a two part series, Estrella Acosta [E-strey-uh Ah-Coast-uh] takes us to the heart of Northern California Gold Country and tells us the story of the Tsi-Akim Maidu's [Chai Awkum My-doo] efforts to recover from near annihilation.

Segment 2, BGM, Healing: "In episode one of Blood, Gold, and Medicine: Healing Maidu Country, Estrella Acosta [E-strey-uh Ah-Coast-uh] looked at the genocide of Northern California's Maidu people. Maidu country was ground zero of California's 1849 Gold Rush. Mining operations and settlements devastated the mountains, rivers, marshlands and ecosystems that had supported Maidu Culture for 10,000 years. In this episode we see how the Tsi-Akim Maidu [Chai Awkum My-doo] are engaging the non-native community to share the burden of the healing process. The Yuba River and the salmon that once ran there have become a rallying point for native and non-native people, bridging significant cultural differences and healing old, deep wounds.
