Piece Description

On the twin anniversaries of its War for Independence and 1910 Revolution, Mexico is in crisis.
A perfect storm of economic, social, ecological and public security troubles is unhinging the US' southern neighbor.
How are Mexicans coping with the crisis?  What are some of the grassroots strategies to overcome the crisis?
Featuring exclusive interviews, sounds and music, this piece takes listeners on a journey to Mexico as the nation grapples with its future. The topics covered include the crisis in the tourism industry, narco-violence in
Ciudad Juarez and a little-known guerrilla war in the Sierra Madres.

The documentary is produced by longtime journalist and author Kent Paterson, who has covered Mexico for
more than 25 years. Production assistance by Mercedes Mejia. Paterson and Mejia produced other recent radio documentaries on Mexico, including "2010: The War for Mexico" and "Memories of a Narco War."
