A Musician's Life: Graham Parker

Series: A Musician's Life
From: WXPN
Length: 00:05:00

Veteran songwriter Graham Parker joins Tracey Tanenbaum on this edition of "A Musician's Life". Early in his career, critics in his native Britain tagged Parker "an angry young man". He took the label in stride. Graham Parker's newest release is called "Imaginary Television". Read the full description.

Grahamparker_small Graham Parker emerged out of Britain's pub rock scene of the early 1970's.  Critics took note of his debut album "Howlin Wind", praising its anger, intensity and smart lyrics.  In 1979 Parker flirted with commercial success with his release "Squeezing Out Sparks" but he never becamef as well known as his contemporary (and the man with whom he was often compared) Elvis Costello.  Still, Graham Parker has churned out a steady stream of work.  His latest effort is called "Imaginary Television".  For this one Parker concocted treatments for TV shows and wrote songs to accompany them.
