This show's main topic is the part that German immigrants played in the formation of the United States. One of the most least known, but one of the most important figures to emigrate to America, from his "Heimat" Germany, was General Von Steuben. He was recruited by George Washington to kick the British out of America. This fascinating show visit's the The Steuben parade, which is held annually in New York in his name. Also there's a visit to 2nd grade from 10 at the public school in Brooklyn New York we hear from their music teacher Fred Ellis: hear of his love of music and about teaching music. The kid's also play some recorder music.
There's a special report on why America is called America. Radijojo go to the streets of Berlin and ask the question: "why is America called America" Also there's a visit to the John. F. Kennedy institute in Berlin, and a fascinating interview with Mrs Braumer, who teaches there. She tells us of the Italian explorer Americo Vespucio and about the history of the Waldseemüller map which was the first map to feature America.
