Eventually she made her way to Los Angeles where she discovered poetry, punk and John Doe. Doe and Cervenka founded the band X. They were also married for a time. Their 1980 debut album "Los Angeles" is considered a seminal work. Critics hailed X for their poetry, musicality and narratives of LA's seamy side. Cervenka and Doe are no longer married but they still tour together as X. In the three decades since "Los Angeles" was released Exene has formed various side and solo projects.
