Active Voice Radio has appeared weekly on KSFR in Santa Fe for five years.
Host/Producer Chris Goldstein originated the show as a live broadcast. When he moved to New Jersey in 2006 he began delivering a pre-recorded version of AVR via the Public Radio Exchange, keeping up the weekly program.
AVR features in-depth interviews with authors, musicians, activists, politicians and public figures on social justice topics. The show has also focused on marijuana prohibition.
Goldstein served as Treasurer of the Northern New Mexico Radio Foundation for four years, helping build financial support in the community for the growth of public radio in Santa Fe.
The show may conclude its run on KSFR in the summer of 2010 and Active Voice Radio is seeking a new broadcast home in the Philadelphia area.
In 1996 Chris moved from Philadelphia, PA to Santa Fe, NM where he lived for 10 years. In a 4 part series of monologues (each 12 minutes) on AVR he discusses what brought him to The City Different and some of his experiences there.
Chris worked at restaurants, hotels, landscaping companies, at the Ski Area and eventually became the Operations Manager of the only Learjet for charter at the Santa Fe Airport. He began producing and hosting public radio programs in 1997 on KSFR moderating a youth radio show for 12-21 year-olds and creating The Last Hours of Night, a weekly program.
Parts 1 and 2 of Santa Fe Stories offer memories of his first impressions of the city and of renting a $200 per month room in a motorcycle shop for his first living quarters.
Parts 3 and 4 will look back on his experiences on top of the local mountain and taking off from the picturesque airport.
