Long description: The United Nations Girls’ Education Initiative (UNGEI)
is a dynamic partnership of organizations dedicated to narrowing the gender
gap in primary and secondary education and to ensuring that all children –
girls and boys – have equal access to quality learning. To commemorate
UNGEI's 10 year anniversary and global conference in Dakar, Senegal, 17-20
May, UNGEI has produced a podcast series on three conference themes,
violence, poverty and quality education. The series aims to advance the
discussions on the role of education in promoting gender equality, and
bring different voices together around the barriers to, and strategies for,
achieving education for all. In the second of this series, podcast
moderator Amy Costello spoke about the ways that violence impacts girls'
access to education with Judith Bruce, Senior Associate and Policy Analyst
with the Population Council and Keyti, a Senegalese rap star and member of
AURA (Artistes Unis pour le Rap Africain) or United Artists for African Rap
- a network of young West African rap stars who have united together to
promote children's rights in Africa.
