KEVIN KELLER IS SITTING IN HIS UPTOWN NEW YORK CITY APARTMENT THAT HE SHARES WITH HIS WIFE. IN WHAT WOULD NORMALLY BE A BEDROOM, HE HAS KEYBOARDS, COMPUTERS A MIXING DESK AND STUDIO MONITORS. IT'S HERE THAT HE WROTE THE FRAGILE, INTROSPECTIVE MUSIC OF HIS LATEST ALBUM, IN ABSENTIA.

"In Abstentia" EMERGED FROM A FAMILY TRAGEDY 2 YEARS AGO WHEN HIS FATHER IN-LAW, A PHILADELPHIA AREA PHYSICIAN, WENT MISSING ON A HUNTING TRIP with two friends IN NEW JERSEY.

KK: No one really knows what happened exactly to them except that none of them survived the night. We don't have enough information to know exactly what happened, but it seems pretty clear because these guys were seasoned hunters that it was something that happened very quickly and very unexpectedly.

So, in the course of all that, just sort of emotionally dealing with that circumstance and having a close family member literally just vanish into thin air, I just felt this need to get those emotions out through music. I was not necessarily thinking of it as being a CD release when I was doing it.

KEVIN KELLER CREATED AN EMOTIONAL ARC ON THE ALBUM WITH TITLES LIKE "HOPE," "STRUGGLE," "ACCEPTANCE" AND "REFLECTION." HE SAYS THEY CONTEMPLATE NOT ONLY HIS EMOTIONS, BUT, THE EMOTIONS HIS FATHER IN-LAW MAY HAVE EXPERIENCED.

KK: Each piece goes back and forth between my own personal experience was dealing with it and what I imagine there personal experience was dealing with it, so. Reflection is more of a feeling that the guys had when they got there actually because it's a beautiful place and kind of you just reflective just being there so that's really what this piece was about.
