The world famous jazzrock and fusion drummer Billy Cobham was born in Panama in 1944, but since the age of three he has lived in the United States. Recently he has gone back to his cultural and musical roots, Latin music. In doing so, he stumbled upon the Cuban band Asere, who used soul and funk in their rendition of Cuban son. You can hear how Billy Cobham’s journey back to his Latin roots has turned out in his performance with Asere at the 2007 Music Meeting in Nijmegen.

Salsa music and Scottish and Irish folk, it seems like an impossible combination, but the Scottish band Salsa Celtica proves the contrary with a beautiful instrumental and musical synthesis of both genres. The result is addictive dance music for a wildly enthusiastic audience.
