Strawbs interview

From: Brian O'Neill
Length: 27:14

Interview on live radio with the British band the Strawbs. Read the full description.

Strawbsinterview2_small The Strawbs formed back in 1968 and had several successful releases in the mid-seventies on A&M records. The Strawbs have evolved from bluegrass to folk rock to hard rock and back to an acoustic trio. The fact their music defies categorization has probably hurt the band's exposure. Dave Cousins, the band's founder calls the music gothic rock. A few years ago they began touring again after a long absence. They have recorded several new albums the past few years on their own label, Witchwood Records. A staple of FM radio in the seventies and touring with the likes of Joe Walsh and Blue Oyster Cult, the Strawbs still fill small clubs and in the past two years have sold nearly 30,000 copies of Hero and Heroine in Canada where it was reissued. Presently touring as the Acoustic Strawbs they consist of founder David Cousins and members that joined the band in the early seventies, Dave Lambert and Chas Cronk. The band appeared live on WMUH-FM just a couple of hours before their appearance at Mayfair in Allentown, PA, where they performed two shows both to full houses. After 35 years in the music industry, the Strawbs are one of the longest lived, and least appreciated bands in existence. The segment includes two songs, Glimpse of Heaven (From the Witchwood, 1971) and If (Deja Fu, 2005).
